11 dead in shootings of Reynosa city after 24 hours of violence

Un hombre y su hijo fueron asesinados mientras caminaban en la localidad de Río Bravo.
Several armed clashes left at least 11 people dead in Tamaulipas, local authorities said.

The shootings in the city of Reynosa and the town of Rio Bravo began Sunday night, authorities said.

Gunmen blocked roads with vehicles they stole and threw nails bent to puncture tires to facilitate their escape.

Authorities requested that a helicopter support patrols that were moving overland to remove the blockades.

Four gunmen were shot dead near a gas station after firing on a military patrol, authorities said. Three more corpses were discovered in other parts of Rio Bravo.
The police found 13 armored vehicles in a handmade way: light vans to which they were welded steel plates. The drug gangs frequently use this type of vehicle in Tamaulipas. The federal forces also found six hand grenades, 17 40mm grenades to be fired with rifles and several dozen weapons, including one .50.
Among those killed is a man apparently killed at the hands of gunmen after he and his son took refuge in a house fire when both were headed to a school.
Three more people were killed in what appeared to be specific attacks in the town of Padilla, south of both towns.
The city of Reynosa borders McAllen, Texas, and has been the scene of confrontations by the dispute of territories between factions of the Cartel del Golfo.
